Kirkham Grammar School, the oldest educational foundation in the Fylde is thought to date back to 1549 although 1551 is the earliest written record. The ‘new’ school on Ribby Road is a fine building which will celebrate its centenary in 2011. Kirkham has many places of worship and two particularly fine churches are the Parish Church of St Michael, Church Street dating from 1822 and ‘The Willows’, St John the Evangelist Ribby Road dating from 1845 designed by Augustus Welby Pugin, (see www.pugin.co.uk) the foremost Victorian architect who also designed the Houses of Parliament and the Palace of Westminster.
