Twinning / Tourism
Kirkham has been twinned with Ancenis in the Loire Valley, France since 1974 and with Bad Brückenau in Bavaria, Germany since 1995.
Kirkham is constantly surprised and pleased by the amount of tourists it attracts from ex-servicemen from the USA and Canada who were stationed here in WW2, to visitors searching out independent shops from dolls houses to original watercolours,to bookshops with a regular stream of famous authors and artisan ice creams and history books on the area. Kirkham has free car parking with plenty of bistro cafés, coffee shops and restaurants to relax in, a park to stroll through and architecture to admire. The weekly market attracts its own crowd with the growing Lancashire market on the first
Saturday of each month attracting producers of fine foods and crafts. Kirkham is at the heart of the Fylde, the coast is 6 miles away and lovely villages surround it. We hope this guide will encourage visitors and make residents look anew at this market town in the heart of Fylde.
Ancenis is a beautiful town on the banks of the Loire. Dominating the town is the magnificent suspension bridge taking you to the town of Liré. In spring and summer the gardens along the river are a mass of flowers. Of course, the valley of the Loire is famous for its chateaux, like Oudon, Angers, Palais Briau, Champtoceaux and Turmelière. Ancenis makes a great centre for touring the whole area. The area is a wine growing region with many vine yards growing
