Making the difference for young people moving on from care
Housing Green Paper
In Homes for the future: more affordable more sustainable 9 the Government has set out is proposals for increasing the supply of affordable housing. In particular the Government has set itself ambitious targets for social rented accommodation, 50,000 a year from 2008 to 2011. The paper identified how the demographics of the country has changed significantly in recent years, i.e. the number of one person households has risen from 19 percent in 1971 to 32 percent in 2008. However, in terms of provision, only the needs of older people and families were clearly identified in the paper.
To complement the Housing Green paper the Government is going to publish a Housing Reform Green paper at the end of 2008, which will contain proposals on tackling worklessness in social housing by making changes that will support people towards greater economic independence.
