CONCRETE MASONRY

Part 1

GENERAL

1.01

SCOPE OF WORK

  • A.

    Furnish and install all masonry complete with all necessary accessories.

      SUBMITTALS

A.

Submit Shop Drawings of masonry reinforcing, complete with reinforcing elevations of all walls, indicating location, height and extent of reinforcing,

including all lintels, beams, bond beams, etc.

For masonry units delivered to

the site: Submit current test results within 90 days verifying compressive strength, moisture content and absorption; within one year for linear shrinkage. Submit samples of any specialty units for approval before manufacturing. Submit mortar and grout design mix (with additives) from a laboratory approved by the Architect. SHOP DRAWINGS, DESIGN MIX AND TEST RESULTS MUST BE REVIEWED BY ARCHITECT PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF ANY MASONRY.

      NOTIFICATION

      • A.

        Contractor shall notify Architect for inspection of reinforcing prior to placement of grout and during all grout placements. Notification shall be given at least 2 weekdays before the grout placement is scheduled.

    • 1.04

      QUALITY ASSURANCE

      • A.

        Conference: Before any work is commenced, a job site conference shall be held, to include the Architect, Contractor's Superintendent, Masonry Contractor and Masonry Foreman, to discuss and review requirements, such as coursing layout, bond, joints, reinforcing, built-in items, special details or design features, cold and hot weather precautions and any other items of handling or execution. Testing: Perform field tests for mortar and grout in accordance with UBC Standard 24-22. Make four specimens for each test. Test two specimens for compressive strength at 7 days. Test second two specimens at 28 days. Suitable equipment for making mortar and grout specimens shall be available at the site during masonry work. Minimum tests required shall be one mortar test and one grout test (four specimens for each) for every 2000 sq. ft. of wall surface, and in no case less than one test (four specimens) for each day of work.

C. Sample Panel: Construct on the site, before and building construction begins, a sample panel 5'4" long x 4'0" high showing range of approved masonry units, size, type and color ofjoints and laying pattern. Conference, called for in paragraph 1.3.1. above shall be held after sample panel is built. Panel shall be
