curing, e1astomeric sealant of base polymer indicated which complies with ASTM C920 requirements.
Sealant: For general exterior use: 2-component nonsag, polyurethane, movement +/- 50%.
Sealant: For general interior use: 1 part, nonsag, mildew resistant, acrylic emulsion sealant complying with ASTM C834, fonnulated to be paintable and involving joint movement of not more than +/- 50%.
Sealant: For interior application in areas subject to exposure to water, 1 component neutral base silicone.
Joint Filler: Provide sealant backings of material and type, which are non staining; are compatible with joint substrates, sealants, primers and other joint fillers' and are approved for applications indicated by sealant manufacturer.
Accessories: Primer, joint cleaner and bond breaker as recommended by manufacturer to suit installation.
Part 3 - EXECUTION
Clean, prime, prepare and size joints in accordance with manufacturers instmctions. Remove any loose materials and other foreign matter, which might impair adhesion of sealant.
Verify that joint shaping materials and release tapes are compatible with sealant.
Examine joint dimensions and size materials to achieve required width/depth ratio. Use joint filler to achieve required joint depths, to allow sealants to perfonn properly. Use bond breaker where required.
The Contractor shall apply sealants of the type recommended by the manufacturer for the following locations and as shown on the Contract Drawings:
Exterior and interior joints between dissimilar materials.
Door, window and louver frame perimeters.
Pipe sleeves through floor and exterior walls.
Control joints in ceramic tile.
For nonnal moving joints, seal joints to a depth equal to 50% ofjoint width, not more than Yz inch nor less than 1;4 inch deep.
Fill to a depth of75% to 125% ofjoint width.
Fonnjoints concave, free of air pockets, embedded matter, ridges and sags.
CURING AND PROTECTION
After filling and finishing joints, the Contractor shall remove masking tape, droppings and smearing of sealant before sealant cures by cleaning with solvent as recommended by the manufacturer of the sealant.
Cure in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
