Part 3

INSTALLATION

3.01

ACCEPTABILITY OF SURFACES

A. Before tiling, be sure variations of surfaces to be tiled fall within maximum

variations shown below.

Walls

Dry-Set Mortar

1/8" in 8'

Epoxy

1/8" in 8'

Organic Adhesive

1/8" in 8'

Floors 1/8" in 10' 1/8" in 10' 1/16" in 3'

Report all unacceptable surfaces to the Architect and do not tile such surfaces until they are leveled enough to meet above requirements. Leveling coat is not included in this section. B. Before tiling, be sure surfaces to be tiled are free of curling membranes, oil, grease, wax and dust.

3.02

LAYOUT

  • A.

    Determine locations of all movement joints before starting tilework.

  • B.

    Detennine locations of all porcelain accessories before statting tilework.

  • C.

    Layout all tilework so as to minimize cuts less than one-half tile in size.

  • D.

    Locate tile cuts in both walls and floors so as to be least conspicuous.

  • E.

    Align all wall joints to give straight unifonn grout lines, plumb and level.

  • F.

    Align all wall joints to give straight unifonn grout lines, parallel with walls.

3.03

WORKMANSHIP

    • A.

      Supply first-class workmanship in all tilework.

    • B.

      Use all products in strict accordance with recommendations and directions of manufacturers.

    • C.

      Proportion all mixes in accordance with latest ANSI Standard Specification.

    • D.

      Smooth all exposed cut tile edges. Be sure cut tile edges are clean before installing.

    • F.

      Fit tile carefully against trim and porcelain accessories, also around pipes, electric boxes and other built-in fixtures so that escutcheons, plates and collars will completely overlap cut edges.

    • G.

      Be sure all tilework is fi'ee of grout film upon completion.

      • 3.04

        SETTING METHODS

  • A.

    Glazed Wall Tile:

    • a.

      Concrete Masonry Walls: ANSI AI08.0 (Reference TCA Method W211, Cement MOltar, Bonded).

    • b.

      On Wood Studs or furring: ANSI AI08.l (Reference TCA Method W231, Cement Mortar).
