HARARDOUS MATERIALS RESTRICTIONS
Paint shall not contain lead.
Do not use mercurial fungicides in exterior oil paints.
Painting materials shall be as identified by reference to Federal Specifications listed in the painting schedule and shall also conform to the requirements of this section.
Coatings: Ready-mixed except field catalyzed coatings of good flow and brushing properties, capable of drying or cUling free of streaks or sags.
Accessory Materials: Linseed oil, shellac, turpentine, paint thinners and other materials required to achieve the finishes specified.

Part 3 - EXECUTION
EXAMINATION AND PREPARATION
Verify that substrate conditions are ready to receive work.
Measure moisture content ofporous surfaces using an electronic moisture meter. Do not apply finishes unless moisture content is less than 12 percent.
Correct minor defects and clean surfaces which affect work of this Section.
Before all surface preparation and painting operations, completely mask, remove or adequately protect all hardware accessories, machine surfaces, plates, lighting fixtures and similar items in contact with painted surfaces, but no scheduled for painting.
Gypsum Board Surfaces: Fill minor defects with latex compounds. Spot prime defects after repair.
Galvanized Surfaces: Remove surface contamination and oils with solvent. Treat with vinyl type wash coat. Allow to dry completely before painting.
Concrete and Unit Masonry: Surfaces Scheduled to Receive Paint Finish: Remove foreign matter. Remove oil and grease with a solution oftri-sodium phosphate, rinse well and allow to dry.
Uncoated Ferrous Surfaces: Remove scale by wire brushing, sandblasting and clean by washing with solvent. Apply treatment ofphosphoric acid solution. Prime paint after repairs.
