ASPHALTIC CONCRETE PAVING

Patt 1

GENERAL

1.01

SCOPE OF WORK

    • A.

      The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment required to furnish and install asphalt paving and seal coat, with compacted granular base, as described in this section and as shown on the Contract Drawings.

      • 1.02

        QUALITY ASSURANCE

Perfonn Work in accordance with State of New Mexico Highways standards.

    • 1.03

      ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

      • A.

        Do not place asphalt when ambient or base surface temperature is less than 50°F or base surface is wet or frozen.

Part 2 PRODUCTS

    • 2.01

      PAVEMENT MATERIALS

      • A.

        Asphalt Cement: ASTM D946 in accordance with State Highways standards.

      • B.

        Aggregate: Coarse: Crushed rock, slag or gravel or combination. Fine: Clean, hard, natural sand or screening from crushing rock, stone or gravel. All materials free of clay, silt, loam or other material.

      • C.

        Mineral Filler: Finely ground mineral particles, free of foreign matter.

      • D.

        Seal Coat: The Asphalt Institute MS-19, fog type.

    • 2.02

      BASE COURSE MATERIALS

      • A.

        Gravel Type A: Crushed, natural stone, free of shale, clay, friable materials, sand and debris.

    • 2.03

      ACCESSORIES

      • A.

        Bumpers: Pre-cast concrete.

    • 2.04

      ASPHALT PAVEMENT MIX

      • A.

        Use dry material to avoid foaming. Mix unifolmly.

  • B.

    Binder Course: 4.5 to 6 percent of asphalt cement by weight in mixture.

  • C.

    Wearing Course: 5 to 7 percent of asphalt cement by weight in mixture.
