PART 3 - EXECUTION

    • 3.01

      APPROVAL OF SUBGRADES

      • A.

        Sod installation shall not take place prior to approval ofthe subgrade preparation. The Contractor is to inspect the subgrade prior to beginning preparation for sod. If the subgrade does not meet required rough grades or has conditions deleterious to sod growth, including but not limited to soil contaminates, debris, large rocks, etc., the Contractor shall notifY the Landscape Architect in writing and receive directions from the Landscape Architect.

    • 3.02

      PREPARATION

      • A.

        Preparation of Subgrade: Before subgrade preparation, clear existing soil of roots, plants, sod, stones, clay lumps and other extraneous materials harmful or toxic to plant growth.

  • B.

    Preparation For Sodding:

    • 1.

      Subgrade: All areas to be sodded shall be brought to an even subgrade and shaped to drain. Set subgrades grades to allow for amendments and sod such that the sod surface will be at the required finish grade when completed. Areas to be sodded shall be uniformly compacted to prevent uneven settlement after sod installation and watering.

    • 2.

      Roughen Subgrade Surface: Roughen subgrade to a six-inch depth with rake, harrow or tiller.

    • 3.

      Spread compost at the specified rate over the area. Thoroughly rototill the compost to a minimum depth of 8 inches. Rototill in two directions each at right angles to each other, thoroughly mixing the area. Drag to even grade, and compact to ninety (90) percent modified proctor.

    • 4.

      Rake and remove stones over linch in any dimension, sticks, roots, rubbish and other extraneous matter brought to surface by the soil amendment process.

    • 5.

      Water: Water area to be sodded thoroughly. Apply a minimum of two inches of water throughout area. Allow area to dry.

    • 6.

      Regrade after water application as necessary to insure drainage and to meet proposed grades. Correct any differential settlement.
