Deadline for church news is the week after each church council meeting.  I look forward to hearing from each of you on the Sunday closest to the 15th of each “odd” month.  News for August-September will go out in mid-July.  Please plan early and contact the secretary with your scheduled events & announcements!

Youth News

Summer is upon us - time for the other “3R”s: resting, relaxation and reflection.  Even though we will not be having our normal meetings over the summer months, we still have some exciting events planned!

June 11-12th the Youth will be camping at Todd Lake.  School is just out – a great time to unwind in God’s great outdoors.  Along with the camping, there is hiking, kayaking and other fun to be had.  Please contact Jerry Swimley (our gracious host for this event) for details.  He needs to know how many will attend!

July 10-11th the Youth will be going to King’s Dominion theme park for King’s Fest.  By day we will be enjoying the rides and slides and shows and by evening we will be enjoying some great worship and music from Casting Crowns, 10th Avenue North and Fee.  We will stay in Ashland Saturday evening and then attend a contemporary worship service at Duncan Memorial UMC on the campus of Randolph-Macon on Sunday morning before returning home.

Project Crossroads Car Wash

Our youth will sponsor two car washes to help Elkton UMC raise money for our upcoming mission trip – one on June 19th and one on July 17th.  Both carwashes will be at the Elkton Exxon/Dairy Queen in Elkton from 9:00am until approximately 2:00pm.

Speaking of our upcoming mission trip – Project Crossroads – the dates have been set for August 1st thru 6th.  Be prepared to be blessed in many ways by being the hands and feet for God in southwest Virginia.  We never know what our projects will be – painting, roofing, decking, yard cleanup, wood splitting and stacking - we only know that God will bless whatever we do in His name!

New Office Hours

Beginning August 1st, our church secretary’s office hours will be 9:00AM-12:00PM Monday through Thursday.

Children’s Ministry

We’re still ROCKIN'!! WOW, we have had as many as 20 children worshipping in Rock Church!! We are learning just what it means to be God's disciples by studying the early church, the importance of reading the Bible, and taking turns praying aloud for each other. We will continue with the same schedule throughout our summer months, but in the Fall we are excited to share that there will be some changes in Rock Church and other offerings for our younger generation.

If you are interested in helping in any aspect of our Children's Ministry (children from the ages of 4-19), please plan on attending a meeting on Wednesday, June 30th at 6:00 at the church.

Older Adult Ministry

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!  “A Lidda Bidda Mountain Spirit” Dinner and Show at Lydia Mountain in Stanardsville, VA.  We have reserved 40 tickets for Saturday, July 17, 2010.  Cost is $40, which includes tax and gratuity.  Wagon rides begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner and show from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  We will carpool from the church, leaving at 5:00 p.m.  Sign-up sheet will be posted beginning June 1, on the Senior Spotlight board in our fellowship hall.  Prepayment is required with checks made out to Phyllis Foltz.  There will be no refunds after July 10.  For more information, contact Judy Burkholder at judyburkholder@yahoo.com or 289-5971.

Senior Citizens

A vibrant group of older folks meet in our church for fellowship on the first Thursday of each month at 10:00AM.  Sponsored by the Rockingham County Recreation Department, all seniors in our community are invited to participate!  Is there a loved one you should invite to join us on Thursday, June 3rd
