UMWomen News

We would like to get more ladies involved in our group.  If you have suggestions for programs, etc. please let us know so we can do some different things that will interest everyone.  We provide childcare for all meetings, so you may bring your children.

Orlando and Carol Quinterro were our guest speakers at the April meeting.  They shared a lot of information on what immigrants need to do in order to be here legally and be able to stay here.

On April 2nd we packed 18 baskets for the elderly and shut-ins in the community and our church.  The people who helped deliver them reported they all were happy to get them.  Thanks to those who helped with the project.  In May, our ladies’ brunch was cancelled due to the recent church kitchen renovation.

On June 20th we will hold our candleburning service during the 11:00 service.  Information will be in the bulletin.  Our next meeting will be August 2nd.  We will have a picnic and some entertainment.  Details will be shared in July.

We are still collecting Campbell soup labels for the Henry Fork Service Center.  You need to save the UPC square with a point amount on it, not the front panel.  If you have any questions please feel free to call Phyllis at 289-5045.

Men’s News

The men have just a few things planned for this summer.  In June, some of our men will be playing in the Mac Fleming Benefit Golf Tournament on 5 June.  There will be a men's breakfast meeting on Sunday, June 6th.  We will help set up tables and chairs for the McGaheysville HS Reunion on June 10th and take down will be June 12th.  Jim Myers will coordinate to get in to do the work.

In July, we will not have our monthly meeting.  We will resume our regular breakfast meetings as of Sunday August 1st at 7am at the church.  Hope to see you!  Have a great summer!  Our UMM Family Fish day is scheduled for 2pm on Sun Sep 12.  More details to come.  And The UMM Golf Tournament to Benefit Camp Overlook will be held at the Shenvalee Golf Resort in Newmarket on Saturday, June 5 at 2pm.  For more information contact Monty Cox at 540-740-8540 or mcox@shentel.net.

Special Event Coming Soon

While doing some research on our Church, our resident historian has confirmed that our Church was started in 1835.  There had been some worship services in people's homes with a circuit-riding preacher prior to that, but it was in 1835 when the church formally organized and when a person was hired to actually build the church building.  If you do the math, that makes 2010 our 175th anniversary year!

Be sure to mark Sunday, September 26, 2010 on your calendar.  We will be celebrating our church's 175th anniversary that day.  We are honored that Bishop Kammerer will be here and to bring the message that day, as well as Rev. Tommie Herndon, our new DS also participating.  We will have some special activities that day, so you won't want to miss it!

As a result of the hard work by the Planning Team, along with your input, comments, and help, our Church Council has adopted a new Vision and Mission for our church that is going to guide us into the future.  We are truly excited about where God is leading us and this Vision and Mission will be the basis of all we do, it will define who we are, and will guide us through our future.  I hope that all of you will embrace them as the mission of our church
