The Council on Ministries of the McGaheysville United Methodist Church met on April 26, 2010 with 10 members present.  Highlights of the meeting are as follows:

He reported the new calendar is up and running.  Anyone having events to schedule should contact him, Nancy Goulart or Mary Kay West.  Also, let them know of any changes in any events already on the calendar.

Children and Family Ministries – VBS is scheduled for June 20 – 24 at Mountain View Church.  Meetings to plan are May 10th at 7:00 and June 7th at 7:30.  Sherri Miles has volunteered to head up the Friday Family nights.  May will be the last one for the summer.

Church Council – The Vision and Mission statements submitted by the Church Planning Committee will be discussed at the May 3rd meeting.

Sunday School – Classes are not starting study on time.  The nursery needs help with the Sunday School hour.  It was discussed changing opening to not having an announcement time and starting classes at 9:50.  This will be tried in the fall.

Music – the music during Lent was very meaningful.  The director is very concerned about the children and youth not having a more active part in the music program.  Something will be worked out so they can sing at both services.

Youth are winding down for the summer.  Attendance is down.  They will have a car wash in May or June, place not decided.  They will go hiking on May 22nd and have their end of the year party on June 6th.  A trip is planned to King’s Dominion on July 10 to hear some gospel groups.  They are planning to attend worship at a church in Ashland.  Project Crossroads is August 1st-6th.  We will be looking for new youth leaders starting in the fall.

Lay Leader shared a letter from the District asking for a monetary gift toward a present for the retiring District Superintendent.

Older Adult – everyone was thanked for making Older Adult Sunday a success.  They will sponsor a trip to Lydia Mountain on July 17th.  Details will follow.

United Methodist Women – the ladies’ brunch has been cancelled due to the renovation of the kitchen.  Their candleburning will be on June 20th.  They will feed the District Ruritan Executive Committee on June 9th.

Small Group – some information sheets have been returned.  There is an interest in starting some different kinds of small groups.

The 175th Anniversary of the church will be held on September 26th.  Bishop Kammerer will be our guest.  Judy Burkholder will be contacting persons to help in various capacities.
