During the geological core logging process, the following information/data collection was recorded:

  • main lithological units and sub-units:

    • o

      pyroclastic kimberlite;

      • o

        volcaniclastic kimberlite;

      • o

        kimberlite breccia;

      • o

        resedimented volcaniclastic kimberlite;

      • o

        magmatic kimberlite; and

      • o

        other: shale, limestone, etc.

  • proportion of constituents (quantitatively captured);

  • average grain size;

  • support: matrix or clast supported;

  • sorting: poorly or well sorted;

  • fabric: bedded, massive, granular;

  • country rock dilution percentages (crustal xenolith size, shape, alteration, percentage that

is quantitatively captured);

  • kimberlitic indicator minerals (type, size, percentage that is quantitatively captured);

  • nature of contacts: sharp, undulating, gradational; and

  • rock quality designation (“RQD”).

The UG-series core holes were geologically logged as indicated above; however, these core holes were not geotechnically logged or sampled by SRK or Shore.

INFILL LDD PROGRAM FALL 2008

In addition to the Mineral Resource Estimate determined by AMEC, a further 100 to 120 million tonnes of the Star Kimberlite was designated a ‘potential mineral deposit’ (See SGF News Release June 9, 2008), based on the detailed core logging, whole rock geochemistry, geophysical and density data which confirmed the geological continuity as extending from the area defined as “Inferred Resource” to that part of the kimberlite which remains outside the resource model but is still contained within the 276 million tonnes originally defined in the geological model for the Star Kimberlite (See SGF News Release October 17, 2006). In order to expand the kimberlite within the Mineral Resource category Shore completed an infill LDD program in the third quarter of 2008.

Shore undertook a further eight LDD holes on the Star Kimberlite (including three LDD holes on Star West). In total, 1,368.8 metres of drilling was completed, with a total of 306.2 m of kimberlite intersected. Results from this program have been incorporated into this updated Resource Estimate.
