First Commanding Officer; promoted to Captain before transfer. Decommissioned, transferred to USSR as part of Lend-Lease Program, renamed Admiral Markarov, operated in Soviet Merchant Marine for 4-11/2 years, and returned to U.S. in Yokosuka, Japan on 28 December 1949. Returned by USSR to U.S. in Yokosuka, Japan. Repaired in Yokosuka, Japan, and renamed USS Atka on 28 April 1950. Commissioned at Yokosuka, Japan as USS Atka on 1 October 1950. USS Atka. USS Atka.
