Ray: Bout six counties.
Payne: So, how many women worked with soil conservation?
Ray: Well, back then it was … um… there for awhile it was just me. And then they added some more. There was about five all together.
Payne: What was the relationship … How did it feel to be the only woman there?
Ray: I liked it. (laughter)
Payne: Did you? (laughter)
Payne: Why did you like it?
Ray: I just liked it. I was boss. (laughter)
Payne: Did you boss them around?
Ray: No. Not really?
Payne: Well, sometimes secretaries do manage … you were the office manager, weren’t you?
Payne: You managed the office. And they basically … you organized them.
Payne: You were organizing them, probably.
Payne: Yes, you were running it.
Ray: Not really, but I thought I was. (laughter)
24:30 Payne: I’ll bet you were. (laughter) Any woman who can make that many … make that much money off of cakes (laughter) probably running it. So, you were probably active in the WCS, weren’t you? The Women’s Society …
Ray: Not then. But I’m more so now.
Payne: Cause you didn’t have time to.
