General Meeting October 12, 2007. The Meeting will be held at the United Church of Christ in Hanapepe. Orchids 101 will start at 6:30 and the meeting at 7:00. The speaker will be Leonard Gimes from Oahu and he will be talking about Oncidiums, Inter-generics and Gram. scriptums. He will show us how to transplant, and we will do hands on planting of our door prize plants. The club will supply the pots and bark so everyone will have a chance to have the feel of planting. He will also have plants to be sold at the meeting.
This Grammatophyllum photo was sent to us by Palani Swami from the Hindu Temple. Members who attended last year’s tour may remember this plant.

Orchids: from the Jungles to our Back Yards - 2007 Kauai Farm Bureau Fair
Kauai Farm Bureau Fair 2007 - Putting on the Show
American Orchid Society Awards - August 2007
First let me thank all those who made the recent Farm Fair show and especially the orchid show we put on as a club along with the orchid sales (and this is the first year we bought and sold our own plants vs vendors). You all know who did the best work without me singling you out. It was a great success and we had many many remarks about the beauty of the show. The judges were again very happy and gave three special awards.
Second we will be electing new officers for the 2008-2009 club sessions, so think about joining us or at least nominating someone who can assist us. All jobs on the board are open this year.
At our Board Meeting it was decided that we would again be having a Makana Award system. This means that anyone wishing to participate for prizes gets points each time they volunteer at meetings and shows, and/or holds a Committee or Board position. This will be further spelled out at the next meeting. It will be the responsibility of those participating to sign up for the points at each event.

We regret to announce that Jerry and Carolyn Hollander will be leaving us the end of this month as they will be moving back to the Mainland. Thank you both for the support you have given the club.
GIOS Welcomes Ed Mercino
We finally have a permanent spot for Board Meetings--at the library at the HUCC church hall. Board Members: enter through the side door closest to the church.
Lastly, if you are unsure what any of the board members do please take a copy of the by-laws and policies and procedures at the librarian table.
