Project Engineer/Engineering Trainer


>Representing DMS and Liaising with Austal Ship, Commonwealth

Classification Society and other personal at inspection test and commissioning activities including sea trail.

> Conduct roving surveillance of vessel under construction to ensure vessel are being built to correct standard

> Assess construction progress to allow DMS to form an independent opinion of the shipbuilder’s progress against standards,

> Documenting results of work undertaken outside the office in a clear and concise manner to allow results to be input to computer programs for progress and defect rectification monitoring

> Representing DMS on delivery voyages as required

>Working with DMS staff in Darwin and Cairns for a short period to hand over vessels on completion of the construction phase

>Other task as assigned by the management

> Training of Navy/DMS personal on ACPB vessel on engineering systems

Key duties include:  

      A)  Identifies technical competencies for all levels of work.

Gains input from DMS/Navy to determine training needs.

Assists with short and long-range planning for training and development.

Research for technical training and prepares or recommends as necessary.

Gauges effectiveness of training provided by DMS and implements suggestions.

Improvement based on course assessments.

Maintains files and records of training course attendance and records utilizing DMS systems.

Trains for and receives necessary qualifications to train employees on Marine Engineer’s Course.

Provide training and assessment of operations and maintenance personnel when safety deficiencies are highlighted

Provide training to new starters to ensure Navy safety and operating procedures, expectations and responsibilities are clearly understood.

Arrange and undertake the regular review of operations and maintenance personnel yearly competency assessments assuring compliance to the annual training plan.

Provide on the job training and workshops to operations and maintenance personnel to enhance skills and competencies.

Ensure operations and maintenance personnel competencies are kept to date ensure maximum availability of the DMS within each Team.

Provide area specific inductions when required.
