FUEL GAS PIPING

1314.1.5 A piping system shall be tested as a complete unit or in sections. Under no circumstances shall a valve in a line be used as a bulkhead between gas in one section of the piping system and test medium in an adjacent section unless two valves are installed in series with a valved "tell tale" located between these valves. A valve shall not be subjected to the test pressure unless it can be determined that the valve, including the valve-closing mechanism, is designed to safely withstand the pressure. [ N F P A 5 4 : 8 . 1 . 1 . 5 ] 1 3 1 4 . 1 . 6 R e g u l a t o r a n d v a l v e a s s e m b l i e s fabricated independently of the piping system in which they are to be installed shall be permitted to be tested with inert gas or air at the time of f a b r i c a t i o n . [ N F P A 5 gas shall be permitted in piping systems that have been pressure-tested in accordance with 4 : 8 . 1 . 4 . 3 ] 1 3 1 4 . 5 D e t e c t i o n o f L e a k s a n d D e f e c t s . 1 3 1 4 . 5 . 1 T h e p i p i n g s y s t e m s h a l l w i t h s t a n d t h e 5 4 : 8 . 1 . 5 . 1 ] 1 3 1 4 . 5 . 2 T h e entire system shall be inspected to determine that there are no open fittings or ends and that all valves at unused outlets are closed and l e a k a g e s h a l l b e l o c a t e d b y m e a n s s h a l l n o t b e u s e d .
