2008 Annual Meeting

Carter Federal Credit Union will be holding its annual membership meeting on Friday, April 25, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the Springhill Civic Center, located at 101 Machen Drive. The business meeting begins at 7 p.m. Enjoy refreshments and register for door prizes from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Please join us on this occasion to renew old friendships with fellow members and to participate in the business affairs of the credit union. We hope we’ll see you there!

Annual Election

As provided in our bylaws there will not be nominations from the floor at the Annual Membership Meeting if there is at least one nominee for each of the four positions being voted upon. Also, if the number of nominees and number of positions being voted upon are equal, elections will be by acclamation. Additional details on the Nominating Committee and petition processes can be obtained from Administrative Assistant Karen Phillips, at (318) 539-4655, ext. 1105.

This year’s Nominating Committee is comprised of Chairman Billy Dubois, Robert Hood and Kathleen Lindsey. The committee’s primary responsibility is to nominate at least one nominee for each of the four directorships to be voted on at the 2007 Annual Membership Meeting set for April 25, 2008.

The committee met on November 21, 2007, and selected five nominees (the four listed have met nomination requirements): Joyce Butler, Jim Hodge, Joe Simms, and Debbie Watson. Information on nominees will be provided in the next newsletter.

Remember, valid petitions must be received by Administrative Assistant Karen Phillips by February 8, 2008. All mail regarding nominations should be sent to: Carter Federal Credit Union, Attn: Karen Phillips, Administrative Assistant, 119 South Main Street, Springhill, LA 71075.

OPTION 1

To Apply through Nominating Committee

Nomination by the Nominating Committee may seek nomination by:

  • Obtaining a Director Packet

  • Completing and signing the documents included in the packet

  • Submittal of all director packet documents to the Nominating Committee

on or before February 8, 2008.

  • Meeting directorship qualification requirements.

In addition to nominations by the Nominating Committee, nominations are available by petition.

Directorship Qualification Requirements include:

  • Interview with Nominating Committee

  • Age 18 years or older and member in good standing

  • Ability to attend board, planning and training meetings

(monthly board meetings)

  • Sound credit history

OPTION 2

To Apply by Petition

Nomination through the petition process, which requires:

    • Obtaining a petition format from the credit union

    • Obtaining petition signatures of at least 1% of the membership (at least 210 members in good standing)

    • Submittal of the petition and an Agreement-to-Serve statement to the Board Secretary by February 8, 2008.

    • Meeting directorship qualification requirements.

  • Signed Agreement-to-Serve statement

  • Completion of a Director Application

  • Signed Statement of Consent and authorization forms for the Credit Union to obtain credit, bondability, and background investigation reports

New Board Members

Two new members, listed below, have recently joined Carter Federal’s Board of Directors.

Jim Hodge recently retired from General Motors with 37 years of service. He was an active member of the UAW662 and UAW2166 during his employment, serving in a leadership role as Shop Steward, Chairman of Trustees, 1st Vice President, and President. Mr. Hodge has faithfully supported the credit union for 23 years, joining in 1984, and previously served on Carter Federal’s Board of Directors for 18 years.

Joe Simms was recently appointed to Carter Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors to fill Rupert Leonard’s position. Mr. Simms worked at International Paper in the utilities department for Mansfield and Springhill for 39 years until retiring three years ago. He shows his support for First Baptist Church as an active member of the church and their building maintenance committee. In addition, he serves as Vice president of Welcome, AR, Fire District. He enjoys fishing and volunteering at the Fountainview Nursing Home where he often entertains the residents and employees by playing his guitar. Mr. Simms has been a member of Carter Federal since 1982. He and his wife, Wanda, have been married for 46 years, have four children (three grown children and one deceased at age seven) and six grandchildren.
