This class will meet twice a week in JO 123 for 1.25 hours each time. You are expected to be in class every time. If you miss more than three class sessions, I will ask you to do an outside observation paper to make up the time you missed.
I understand that sometimes students cannot avoid coming to class late. However, if you habitually come in late it will be a disruption and may affect your grade. If you are more than 15 minutes late, that day will be counted as a missed class.
Unless you have one of these emergencies: hospitalization, death in your immediate family, serious car accident on the way to class, there is no make-up work. I will ask for documentation for any of these situations and then allow you to make up the work you missed.
The text for this class is: Teaching Tips by Bill McKeachie.
Grades are assigned on this basis:
And so on…..No extra credit
Deliver two brief lectures—one to a group of freshmen the other to a group of grad students
Write a syllabus for a course you’d like to teach someday (not a basic-level one)
Write learning goals and objectives for one unit in your course
Write a final self-assessment explaining what you wanted to learn in this course and what you did learn in it.
Assignment due dates are TBA.
I do not give incompletes unless you have a serious medical condition (think heart bypass surgery) or accident (think hospitalized). If you believe that you will not be able to do the work in this class, please drop it before the deadline.
