Ecological education: a primary element of social responsibility

During the past few decades, the Russian reality regarding the envi- ronment has radically changed. Today, we are in need of experts possessing high professional competence in all ar- eas of environmental management and responsibility. Therefore, the search for effective methods and means of improving the quality of preparation of experts, using modern methods of continuous education in these areas, has intensified dramatically.

The international independent Uni- versity of environmental and Political Sciences (iiUePS) represents a brand- new type of higher educational institu- tion focusing on the tasks of environ- ment, environmental education and the

development of experts in these areas.

One of the purposes and challeng- es of iiUePS is the provision of high- quality environmentally-focused pro- fessional education for the preparation of future highly-skilled, educated ex- perts with the ability to perform scien- tific research and contribute to the ed- ucation of socially responsible citizens of the new Russia.

Students acquire analytical skills for work in the human environmental sphere, including active civil action for solving and preventing environmental problems. in meeting these very im- portant civic duties, iiUePS provides a program for training disabled indi- viduals, assisting them to enhance their

physical potentials. The international motto of ecologists: «Think globally

of each iiUePS graduate.

The content of environmental-po- litical education at the university focus- es on the provision of information and experiences in the following areas:

1. The development of sound en- vironmental attitudes and strategies and a general and professional culture among students that is appropriate on a world-scale level.

2. integration of individuals into global and national systems and cultures.

3. Promotion of citizens who are in- tegrated into a modern society and fo- cused on its improvement.
