The Gift of life program was begun in 1975 as a Rota- ry project in Manhasset, NY. The mission of both Gift of life international and Gift of life programs around the world is to further the cause of world peace and understanding by facilitat- ing free medical services to children suffering from con- genital heart defects who would otherwise lack access to such services. Once the volunteer team of doctors determines that the child will benefit from surgery, the host Rotary club must make a commitment to house and feed the child’s family, agree to transport the family to and from the hospital and airport, and provide $6,000 toward all in-kind expenses. More information about this program may be found on- line at www.giftoflifeinterna- tional.org. This website aptly states, a drop of your kind- ness creates a ripple that will last a lifetime!
