The Opportunities: Ladies Professional Golf Association
The LPGA, in full the Ladies Professional Golf Association, is an American organization for female professional golfers. The organization, whose headquarters is in Daytona Beach, Florida, is best known for running the LPGA Tour, a series of weekly golf tournaments for elite female golfers from around the world that runs from February to December each year.
The LPGA is one of the longest-running women's professional sports associations in the world. Founded in 1950, the organization has grown from its roots as a playing tour into a non-profit organization involved in every facet of golf.
Each year, the LPGA Tour holds two sectional qualifiers and one Final Qualifying Tournament. The top qualifiers move on to compete in the 90-hole Final Qualifying Tournament at LPGA International in December.
The Tour’s 2012 schedule includes 29 tournaments in 17 US states & 12 countries worldwide and attracts top women professionals from 30 different nations.
Women’s professional golf is now receiving tremendous attention throughout the world and countries that do not have a golfing tradition are now interested in hosting events.
