The Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) is becoming a major tool for tracking and comparing quality. In 2008 over 300 community colleges are participating in the CCSSE survey. The survey looks at five different areas: active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student-faculty interaction, and support for learners.
The Assessment Cycle
Much of the issues on assessment can be clarified when viewed as an assessment cycle. The following diagram is adapted from Amy Driscoll’s presentation to the WASC Educational Seminar in February 2008. More information on the cycle of assessment and its relation to program review can be found in later sections of this handbook and the college’s planning, evaluation, and resource allocation system flow diagram.
