Breda & Weinstein project in Opava obtained planning permit

Opava, 8.7.2009 – The project of a shopping and entertainment centre Breda & Weinstein, which is being realized by a development company Develon for an investor Quinlan Private, has obtained valid planning permit at the beginning of July. The revitalization and extension of a 2-hectare site of a former brewery Zlatovar situated in the historical centre of Opava, will bring the inhabitants of Opava and neighbouring districts some 25 thousand square meters of modern commercial space and related underground parking capacity. Thanks to the quality of the architecture by Šafer Hájek Architekti and the modern concept, the centre will represent a unique building in the entire Czech Silesia. The centre will boast a 4-screen multiplex cinema, a traditional restaurant with a microbrewery and a stylish cafe, placed in a renovated brewing house, in addition to international fashion brands, wide array of services and modern gastronomy. From the north-east directly connected to Opava’s central pedestrian zone and from the south to the city’s inner road ring, Breda & Weinstein enjoys unparalelled pedestrian access, lying just few steps away from the public and regional transport stops. Two separate entrances into the underground parking will provide the project with an excellent accessibility for car-borne visitors. The Breda & Weinstein will also be an energy efficient project, using the most up to date technologies and know-how to minimize energy consumption over the year.

The project will be placed in the historical centre of Opava, on the site of the former Zlatovar brewery, using a traditional regional brand Breda & Weinstein. The new shopping and entertainment centre will continue in the regional shopping tradition spanning more than 100 years, and will bring a balanced combination of shops, services, gastronomy, entertainment, culture and other leisure activities. "Our goal is identical to that of the co-founder of the brand David Weinstein from mid-1920’s, namely to build a modern shopping palace in Opava, which would attract the customers not only to abundance of wares for reasonable prices, but also to an aesthetically appealing and cultivated environment ", said Radim Bajgar, a director of Develon.

The centre will provide its visitors with circa 25 thousand square meters of leasable area, with approximately 120 units on three floors and more than 500 parking places. In addition to quality food retailer, wide selection of fashion and accessories, sports fashion and equipment, the developer puts an accent on the leisure activities and family entertainment facilities. The top floor of the centre will sport a 4-screen cinema, which could seat 500 movie goers, a food court and additional offering of leisure activities. There will also be a crèche on the floor, including a reading room and in cooperation with the Municipal library of Opava, also a small library department for the little ones. The construction of the project will start at the end of 2009, after the ongoing archaeological survey is finished. Opening is planned for March 2011.

A renowned international real estate consultancy Cushman & Wakefield is the exclusive leasing agent of the project. "Opava is one of the last major cities in the Czech Republic without a real retail/shopping centre offer, and as such the interest in the scheme is strong. This is also down to the shopping centre’s great location on the edge of the historic city
