So long, Wichita, hello, Reno. Kami Malnaa, former Scotty basketball player, is now an assistant coach for the Nevada Wolf Pack's women's basketball program.
Malnaa comes to Nevada from Wichita State University where she served as an assistant coach under Jane Albright
coaching duties at Wichita Kami Malnaa State this past spring, it left
Kami jobless as well. Then, when Albright got hired as head coach of the Wolf Pack, she called Kami and told her to pack her bags: "We're moving to Reno."
As an assistant at Wichita State University, Malnaa's
development, community service, film exchange and summer camps. Prior to serving as an assistant Wichita State, Malnaa served as the Shockers' director of basketball operations
"Kami has worked with me for two years and shares my vision of how I want to be successful," Albright said. "She is a tireless worker, a great teacher, and is constantly trying to learn from others in this profession. She is a very talented young coach who knows and understands basketball and the young women who play it."
Prior to her time at Wichita State University, Malnaa was the first assistant coach at Montana State University - Billings from 2004-06. During her time with the Yellowjackets, the team posted a 39-16 record, qualified for the NCAA Regional Tournament in 2005 and won a Heartland Conference Championship in 2006.
Malnaa has also spent time coaching at the high school level,serving as the head varsity coach at YellowstoneCounty Christian Home School from 2002-04 and an assistant coach
at Billings West High School, the State AA Champions, from
A 1998 Glasgow High School graduate (the lost 70-60 to Malta for the Class B State Championship her senior year), Malnaa played for Montana State University
Billings from 1998-02. Her 1999 team reached the NCAA
Elite Eight while her 2000 and 2002 teams also qualified for the regional tournament. She was named First Team All-Conference in 2002 and served as a captain from 2000-02. In addition, she was named Most Inspirational Player in 2002 and was named the Harold Most Outstanding Student-Athlete in 2002. She is third all-time in
school history in career three-pointers made (171). 6
