Made an honorary life member of the CTC in 1902 for his dedication to cycle touring,

Lightwood describes the early years of bicycle touring in England.

Thorenfeldt, Kai (1901-).  Round the world on a cycle. Translated by Erle Lunn.  London: Selwyn & Blount LTD, 1928.  {9315700}

He began with a companion who quit in Italy while Thorenfeldt continued on through Albania and Greece.  He rode through parts of the Middle East before obtaining a new bicycle and riding through India and Southeast Asia.  He then rode in Japan, Java, across South and North America before returning to his home in Denmark.

He suggested to his publisher a trip tracing the points of interest in Dumas’s novels, and the publisher suggested using a bicycle.  Throughout, Newman described his own experiences during the First World War.  On several occasions he provided sufficient detail for others who wanted to follow the route.
