If one of these bills affects your business, please contact our local legislators and let them know. You can do this by using the California Chamber of Commerce’s “Grassroots Action Center” located at www.calchamber.com/CC/Grassroots. AB 8 (Nunez) - Health Care Tax on Employers: Comprehensive health care reform bill that would, among other things, require employers to provide health care for their employees at an unspecified percentage, or pay that amount into a state fund, essentially pay or play. OPPOSE SB 840 (Kuehl) - Government-Run Health Care: Creates new government run, multi-billion dollar socialized health care system built from a yet-to-be- specified tax increase. OPPOSE SB 936 (Perata) - Roll Back of Cost- Saving Workers` Compensation Reforms: Rolls back recent workers’ compensation reforms by doubling permanent disability costs to California’s workers’ compensation system. OPPOSE SB 974 (Lowenthal) - Tax on Freight Movement: Increases the cost of shipping goods and makes California less competitive by imposing a per-container tax in the ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Oakland. OPPOSE SB 412 (Simitian) - Restrictions on Natural Gas Supplies: Hurts the state`s future energy supply and increases costs for businesses and consumers by prohibiting agencies from issuing permits for the construction of Liquefied Natural Gas facilities (LNG) until an LNG Needs Evaluation Report is completed. OPPOSE SB 719 (Machado) - SJVAPCD Governing Board: Expands the governing board of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District from 11 members to 15, including two unaccountable members of the public. OPPOSE SB 375 (Steinberg) - Growth Restrictions: Limits increased transportation capacity and affordable housing, and thwarts intent of voters who approved broad-based transportation bonds, by blocking use of these funds except for narrowly defined “infill” devel- opment projects. OPPOSE AB 437 (Jones) - Employment Discrimination: Greatly expands employers' liability exposure by effectively removing any statute of limitations for lawsuits challenging any employer decision that affects pay or benefits.
