Summary

Over half of all women initiating prenatal care (at some time during the year) have been exposed to one or more prescription medications.

One out of 70 women initiating prenatal care have been prescribed to at least one psychotropic medication.

Most commonly prescribed psychotropic medication drug group was anti-depressants.

Overall, among those taking psychotropic medications, more than two out of five women have been exposed to psychotropic drugs from multiple therapeutic classes. This varied widely by drug group.  

Women most likely to have been exposed to multiple classes of psychotropic medications were those taking anti-psychotics.
