Brassica : Harvesting the Genome, Diversity and Products

Australia

Brassica crops:

Over the last five years, Australia produced an average of 1.68 million tonnes of canola per year. There is also significant vegetable Brassica production for local consumption.

Research & Development:

Genomics initiatives and resources:

National Brassica Improvement Program

2002-2007

PIRVic. GRDC funded Brassica Molecular Marker Program to develop genomic resources for Brassica and apply these resources to develop molecular markers for disease resistance. Includes gene discovery, SNP and SSR molecular marker discovery, the development and application of gene expression microarrays, genomics databases, construction of mapping and trait families

2004-2007

PIRVic. GRDC/AgGenomics funded Multinational Brassica Genome Sequencing Project. To sequence the complete genome of Brassica rapa as part of an international consortium.
