The United States does not have an official language; however, the majority of the population speaks English as a native language (some 82%). Because of Chicago's large multi-ethnic population, a wide variety of faiths are practiced. Various Christian denominations such as diverse Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant churches are found throughout the area along with adherents of Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, Sikhism, Bahá'í, Sufism and others. In addition, it should be noted that there are a number of adherents who do not identify or affiliate with religion that live in this city.
