B-11. Orientation for volunteers
Volunteers need to prepare for going projects before they leave.
The sending organization should organize the orientation to support their preparation and so that they can do better activities in their program. Also it is important for sending organization staffs to meet them for future supporting and involvement.
The aims of orientation are
1) to make good relationship between your organization and volunteers
2) to tell them about their project, culture, language and make them prepare in advance.
3) to share their aim of participation and set up goals
4) to meet other volunteers and stimulate each other
Meeting other volunteers are good opportunity for them to know other people, who are interested in similar issues, have different opinions or have big dreams, etc.
They stimulate each other and they make a good relationship to support each other.
Last and previous report, information to get contact with the returned volunteers, orientation on the work, providing information about what to bring and pass the info sheet of the participants.
Personal building which includes creative plans and alternative work advice, cutting down the expectation from the volunteers, self motivation and self management, read the related information from the web of receiving organization, personal research on the project and language of the destination country.
Life: presentation about the organization, culture, country of the destination, intercultural learning, basic life standard, health matters and insurance.
Tips: The way of travel, cheap agency and shops, nice places, embassy, visa information, packing lightly and buy materials in the destination country.
