109.08 Scales. Several pay items are specified to be measured by weight in trucks. Such materials are to be weighed on truck scales which must weigh the entire truck. Other pay items are measured by weight using the batch weights determined by a batch plant. Some pay items require weighing of individual components such as seed for seeding, aggregate and cement for concrete, etc. Such individual component weights may be determined on truck scales, batch plant scales, or other scales appropriate to the material.

(a) Calibration. ALL SCALES USED TO WEIGH PAY ITEMS OR COMPONENTS OF PAY ITEMS MUST BE CALIBRATED.

Calibration is required at least annually and before use after the scales have been moved. Calibration is to be performed by a certified scale mechanic and a copy of the scale calibration/inspection report is to be kept in the Resident Engineer's office files.

In order to properly document the calibration of all scales, the Resident Engineer shall include the following statement on the initial daily report of weighed material, and on the first daily report following each subsequent scale test made during the project, for each material being weighed:
