WHEN GOOD INVESTING GOES BAD

n Chapter 3, we discussed how to begin investing.Although that is a very important part to building wealth, it’s just as impor- tant to figure out how and when you will begin investing. Throughout subsequent chapters, we discuss the different investment vehicles and types of securities that exist, so that you can educate yourself and make better decisions about how you want to establish your portfolio. Now that we’ve distinguished between the different investment types, we talk about different things that can knock you and your portfolio off course, as well as how to get back on track. These pitfalls include trying to “time” the market, day trading, and buying on margin. Here, we also discuss dollar-cost averaging and the buy-and-hold strategy. Finally, we look at the strat- egy of selling stocks short, which can be both beneficial and detri- mental to your investment portfolio and long-term goals. I
