subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in 1979 and passed the New Zealand Law Professional Examination in 1980. He was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1981 and as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Australian Capital Territory, Australia in 1988. Subsequently, in 1989, he was appointed as Commissioner for Oaths by the Supreme Court of Malaysia. He was admitted as an Advocate Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in January 1982 and has been practicing law since then. Currently, he is also a Director of Star Publications (Malaysia) Berhad and a Trustee of UTAR Education Foundation and Huaren Education Foundation.
Datuk Leong has no conflict of interest in any business arrangement involving the Company and has no family relationship with any other director and/or substantial shareholder of the Company. He has not been convicted for any offences within the past ten years.
DATO’ LAU YIN PIN
Aged 56, was appointed as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of Nanyang Press Holdings Berhad on 6 December 2004. He is also the Chairman of the Finance Committee and a member of the Audit Committee.
Dato’ Lau obtained his Diploma in Commerce with distinction from Tunku Abdul Rahman College in 1974. He has been a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) since 1979. In 1981, he was made a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, United Kingdom and in 1987, he become a graduate member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, United Kingdom.
He was a Chairman of the Board of Matang Holdings Berhad (January 2000 to June 2004), Chairman
of Koperasi Serbaguna Malaysia Berhad (August 1997 to June 2004). He was appointed as Senator of Dewan Negara for a 3 years term commencing 25 November 2002 by Seri Paduka Baginda Yang diPertuan Agong until his voluntary resignation in March 2004.
He is currently a Director of Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Star Publications (Malaysia) Berhad and YTL Power International Berhad; the Chairman of Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research, Treasurer General of Malaysian Chinese Association and Trustee of Chang Ming Thien Foundation.
Dato’ Lau is holding 1,250 shares (0.0016%) of the Company. He is also deemed to have an interest of 1,250 shares (0.0016%) in the Company by virtue of his spouse direct shareholding of 1,250 shares (0.0016%) in the Company.
