GROUNDBREAKING AND BLESSING OF THE BIENES PERFORMING ARTS CENTER AT SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS HIGH SCHOOL
Excitement was felt by all at St. Thomas Aquinas as Archbishop John C. Favalora blessed the land and turned the first shovel of turf to mark the site of the new Bienes Performing Arts Center. The ceremonial groundbreaking took place on the beautiful morning of December 6th under a big tent at the building site on Davie Blvd. The momentous occasion consisted of an opening prayer, greeting, and reflection by the Archbishop and a welcome by Principal Tina Jones. Monsignor Vincent T. Kelly acknowledged major contributors Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bienes, as well as contributors Mr. and Mrs. Damon DeSantis, Mr. and Mrs. Manny Velar and the many other benefactors and sponsors who have committed to supporting his vision for this project.
BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE CAMPAIGN UPDATE
“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant”. ~Robert Louis Stevenson
It is my pleasure to write a few words to all of you,
St. Thomas Aquinas High School has the privilege of planting the seeds of Excellence in Everything in our students each and every day. Our commitment to providing state of the art facilities for today’s Raiders can be seen in the new George Smith Athletic Center which is taking shape before our eyes. Equipped with new girls’ and boys’ locker rooms, an audio-visual room, a modern weight room, a training and rehabilitation room, offices for coaching staff, a trophy display room and 6 new classrooms, the George Smith Athletic Center will be the perfect environment for our student-athletes.
The Raider tradition of excellence continues with the construction of the Bienes Performing Arts Center. Standing in front of our current campus, and along Davie Blvd, the Bienes Performing Arts Center will allow our students to explore theater, dance, music, and film as well as participate in many aspects of managing such endeavors. Our new theater will be home to local and international stage productions expanding the Raider students’ cultural education immensely.
