Placing a Boil Water Order

  • 1.

    Provide appropriate language (Boil Water Order) to owner, manager, or responsible individual for immediate distribution to consumers.

    • A.

      Provide language by phone if deficiency is noted in office, i.e. MCL violation, report of loss of service.

  • B.

    Provide language in person if deficiency is noted during an on-site visit.

  • C.

    Field staff provides handbills to consumers when owner or manager is not present and a deficiency is

noted.

  • 2.

    Alert field (office) staff to action and deficiency.

  • 3.

    Contact other agencies as appropriate, i.e. Eating and Lodging, Agriculture, Manufactured Housing Board,

etc.

    • 4.

      Visit by field staff to discuss with owner, manager, etc. action to take to correct the specific deficiency.

    • 5.

      Mail mandatory language for posting or distribution to consumers where an MCL violation has occurred.

  • 6.

    Enter appropriate information into data base (violation, etc.).
