Chain of custody – accounting for evidence and documents from the time obtained until the end of the trial.
Capias – a court writ directed an officer to arrest a person.
Ad damnum – the damages claimed by a plaintiff.
Demurrer – plea for a dismissal of a dispute on the grounds that even though the plaintiff’s arguments are true, they are insufficient to sustain a claim.
Intestate – one dies without a will.
Stay – delay a legal order (e.g., an execution).
Sidebar – discussion between judge and lawyers at the bench, outside the hearing of the jurors.
Soddit- Some Other Dude Did It!
Vacatur- a decision is set aside, annulled, or vacated.
