A fee schedule is posted at the entrance. HCA Membership Passes, good for 12 consecutive months, are available at the gate. The Hamilton Conservation Authority is a corporate body established under the Conservation Authorities Act of Ontario, to further the conservation, restoration, development and management of resources, including wate , in partnership with its member municipalities and the Province. Water is the essential element necessary to all life, and how our communities prosper depends, to a large extent, on how we manage this all-important resource.

Welcome to Valens Conservation Area, a 300-hectare mecca for campers, anglers and outdoor lovers. Our 76-hectare lake offers some of the best fishing around. Come for the day, or stay for a week. We’ve have 223 campsites and more than 10 kilometres of trails. Located near Cambridge, Valens is only minutes from Hamilton, between Highway 401 and Highway 403.
Valens has some of the best fishing around. Take on the monster northern pike, largemouth bass and panfish lurking beneath the surface of the lake. You can fish from boats, from the fishing bridge, and from piers located around the lake. Join us for the popular John Burns Memorial Fishing Derby, which takes place on the second Saturday in July and Icefest Winter Ice Fishing Derby in February.
The beach area is sandy and the water treated and safe for swimming. A special screen allows us to chlorinate the swimming area and separate it from the rest of the lake. Be smart in the water this summer: follow all water safety rules. Safety Note: Waterfront area is unsupervised. Adults, children are your responsibility. No lifeguards are on duty.
Visit us in the fall to enjoy nature’s quiet splendour. When the snow falls, bring your cross-country skis for an easy run along groomed trails, or stay at our campground - it’s open for weekend camping.
Valens has everything your group will need to experi- ence its natural wonders, from a warm sandy beach and fishing piers to sprawling picnic grounds, barbecues and covered pavilions. Valens is a popular camping destination, with 223 campsites, including 110 with electrical hook-up and water. Youth groups can learn about our natural world and sleep under the stars in one of eight group camping sites. The campground is open January to November, so visitors can experience nature in all seasons. A computerized camping reservation system allows you to easily plan your visit to Valens. Also, a convenient swipe card allows campers 24-hour access to Valens. In keeping with the Three Rs - Return, Reuse and Recycle - please remember to drop off the card before you depart. So all our visitors can enjoy their stay, we ask that you observe the following:
Please do not deface, remove or damage any property, plants, birds or mammals in the conservation area.
Please place your garbage in containers provided. Recyclable materials should be placed in recycling containers.
Adults are responsible for watching their children. Please abide by the beach regulations. No lifeguards on duty.
Public telephones are located at the beach house and campground washroom buildings. For all emergencies - dial 911.
Electric motor and non-power boating is allowed in the reservoir. Rowboats, canoes and kayaks are available for rental at the boathouse.
Please keep your pets on leashes at all times. Pets are not allowed on the beach. They are permitted outside the beach area.
Snowmobiles and off-road vehicles are not allowed in the conservation area.
Motorcycles are allowed on roadways only.
Vending, soliciting and advertising are not allowed, except by written permission of the Hamilton Conservation Authority.
Fishing: * Fishing is not permitted from April 1 to the last Saturday in June to allow largemouth bass to spawn undisturbed.
Camping: * Please read the regulations on your camping permit.* One vehicle is allowed per site. One additional vehicle may be registered at an extra cost. Maximum 6 persons.* Quiet time is 10:30 p.m.-8:00 a.m. Please turn off your radios and refrain from making excessive noise at any time. Visiting hours are over at sunset.* Please build fires in designated places only. Camper supply items such as firewood, ice, and snack food are available at the campground store in season.
