Guidelines for an exhibit

A History Fair exhibit is like a room in a museum. It relies on clear, text (labels) and a substantial amount of visual evidence to communicate the student's research and analysis.

  • Before mounting, students should create an outline that organizes their research and a layout of their exhibit.

  • Exhibits should use evidence such as pictures, photographs, documents, charts, graphs, maps, and other visual aides to tell the story of their research in visual form.

  • Every item mounted on the boards should have a typed explanation (captions) beneath of about 3-4 short sentences.

  • All visual material should be mounted on construction paper and follow a color scheme.

  • Exhibits should have a logical flow. The thesis, body of evidence, and conclusion should all be displayed on the board. They must show change over time.

  • Students must have an annotated bibliography with primary and secondary documents separated, and two summary statement forms turned in to you when the exhibit is completed
