Dvorák Carnival Overture Op.92

Dvorák Cello Concerto in B minor Op.104

Smetana Excerpts from Ma Vlast

The Hexagon season ends with a visit from one of the Czech Republic’s most distinguished orchestras, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, under the talented conductor Petr Altrichter, who became famous in the UK for his distinguished artistic directorship of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The evening will start with Dvorák’s colourful Carnival Overture and then the leading Russian cellist, Nina Kotova will join the orchestra in a performance of perhaps the greatest cello concerto ever written, his Cello Concerto, full of some of Dvorák’s most romantic music. The evening will end with three excerpts from Smetana’s epic Ma Vlast. Normally audiences only get to hear the famous Moldau section, which we will hear tonight. In addition there will be two other excerpts, showing the scope and drama of this ultimate Czech symphonic poem.

Pre-concert talk 6.15pm – 7.00pm Kennet Room, Civic Offices (FREE)
