We are delighted to open our Hexagon season with the world famous Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, one of Russia’s most distinguished orchestras. Their music director, Yuri Simonov, will conduct the orchestra in a programme which opens with Khachaturian’s Spartacus Suite, a great favourite with audiences ever since it was used by the BBC for the theme music of their series The Onedin Line. The first half will end with the young British violinist Charles Siem performing Shostakovich’s passionate Violin Concerto No.1. In the second half the orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s epic Symphony No.4 with its famous ‘fate’ motif.

Pre-concert talk 6.15pm – 7.00pm Kennet Room, Civic Offices (FREE)
