April 10, 2007
Gulf Shores Mayor Billy Duke and Orange Beach Mayor Pete Blalock announced today that the Cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach will host an insurance forum for residents of Or- ange Beach and Gulf Shores on Thursday, April 19, at 6 p.m. at the Adult Activity Center at 26251 Canal Road in Orange Beach.
Sen. Bradley Byrne will be discussing the legislation he recently introduced to allow single family homeowners to join the captive insurance program that was approved by the legislature in 2006. Tim Russell will be discussing both the “Beach Pool” and the efforts to establish the captive insurance program. Insurance Commissioner Office representatives will be on hand to answer questions from residents.
“We passed a resolution last month supporting Senator Byrne’s legislation and sent a copy to every member of the state legislature,” said Mayor Pete Blalock. “This is an issue that is not just an Orange Beach or a Gulf Shores issue. This is a national issue that is going to take every- one working together to solve,” Blalock added.
“I think that it is important for us to look at all options in addressing the current insurance situa- tion and I am glad that we will be able to provide this information to our residents,” said Gulf Shores Mayor Billy Duke.
