Dom Orlando

1927-2000 USA Member

1982-2000 Domenico E. Orlando, but known to his friends as Dom, passed away on the night of January 20, 2000. Dom was born in Windsor, Ontario Canada on May 31, 1927 to Albano and Giacomina Valeri. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and came to Florida in 1968. But it would be another 14 years before he would become part of the USA family. As I spoke to many of you, informing you of his passing, the most often heard comment was ”He was such a nice man.” I met Dom at the first USA meeting that I attended in February of 1984. You could hardly miss him, the big friendly guy with the nice smile. Over the years, I had gotten to know Dom a lot better and had developed a great appreciation for his sense of humor. He often bragged that he did not have a home computer and had only recently bought a color TV that had no remote. Technology just did not im- press Dom. In Roatan a couple of years ago, we were on an outing one afternoon when we weren’t diving. We had a mixed group-that is USAer’s and non-USAer’s
