Papua New Guinea
2000 Exotic Trip
Papua New Guinea (PNG) offers some of the greatest diversity of fishlife in the world. It sits at the confluence of major ocean currents that have turned its waters into rich feeding and genetic mixing grounds for species from Japan, the Indian Ocean, the South Pacific and Australia. The result is a high number of rare and unusual species that few desti- nations can match.
Paul Humann described PNG as having as many species as anywhere else on earth. We will dive on reefs, walls, and boomies which are coral heads that are up to fifty feet in diameter and forty feet high.
We will be diving for ten days on Peter Hughes Febrina. Topside sights as rare as anything underwater await us. PNG travel guides call it one of the last un- known, unspoiled places on earth. It was the last inhabited place explored by Europeans. In 1995 another Stone Age tribe made its first contact with the outside world. More than 700 distinct languages (a third of all the world’s languages) are spoken in PNG which is
the size of California.

2001 OverSeas Dive Committee
We've just barely finished with all the hoopla over the year 2000. It's been Y2K this, Y2k that, yadda, yadda, yadda!! But guess what??? We've got to start think- ing about 2001!!!
It's become necessary to book places a year in advance, more in some cases. I would like to start planning for next year as soon as possible. I've scheduled a meeting of the 2001 Overseas Dive Committee for Thursday, February 17th at 7:00pm at my house. I would like to invite everyone in the club, who is interested in diving, to this very impor- tant meeting. This is where we will begin planning for all of next year's overseas dive trips; from weekend diving to 3 weeks in some exotic locale.
We have many places to choose from already, but are always looking for new places to go. We welcome your ideas and suggestions. If you are thinking of going overseas diving next year, please bring your ideas to this meeting. Come and see how you can be a trip leader.
We all profit from going as a group, and we receive discounts that smaller groups would not be eligible for. Please attend if you want to be in on our planning.
Let’s make the year 2001 another great year for diving.
