Meet Your New Vice President

David H. Starke

As the new Vice President, let me introduce myself, I was born and raised in Frankenmuth, Michigan and graduated from Michigan State with a Packaging Engineering degree.

My wife Iva and I have two children and two grandchildren. We spent several summers tent camping when the children were young and even tried a pop-up. We got away from 'camping' when the children grew up, but we always had fond memories of our outdoor camping experiences.

When we entered the next chapter in our lives, we researched the RV lifestyle. In January '05 we ordered a new Dutch Star, picked up the coach in June, sold the house in August and after 40 years of working, retired in May '06 and have not looked back.

We attended our first FMCA and SCIC rallies in Charlotte, NC in June '06 and have enjoyed all the people we have met and look forward to being part of SCIC.

Lots of Things to do Going to the Next Rally By David H. Starke

I am hoping for a good turnout at the Charlotte rally and looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible. To make you trip more enjoyable, I would like to recommend some side trips. The Indianapolis 500 is held the week prior to the Rally. The Brickyard Museum has many old US and foreign race cars. Another fine automobile museum is the Auburn, Cord and Duesenburg museum in Auburn, IN, (acdmuseum.org). These are some of the finest cars made in the 1930's. There is also the Studebaker museum in South Bend, IN. North of Kalamazoo MI. is the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI.

Also consider the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI. I have not been there in a while, but found it very interesting, old cars and Edison's lab.

Dayton Ohio is home to the Wright-Patterson Air Force base and museum. This is a very large facility and you can spend a couple of days there. On Friday, there is a special tour of the hanger where the restoration work takes place. This by reservation only, but if you are at the desk early on Friday and someone does not make
