1. Technical Advice, Applied Research, and Teaching

Over the past thirty years I have provided technical and management advice on a wide range of resource development and environmental management issues. The majority of my work has been associated with resources development and management in developing countries, including project formulation, development, monitoring and evaluation; applied research; and training. This work has been undertaken for: the United Nations Agencies (World Bank, UNFAO, UNEP, UNDP, UNESCO), the World Conservation Union (IUCN), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), International Council for Exploration of the Seas (ICES), international aid agencies, and private consulting firms.

During 1999-2000 I undertook a major assessment of arrangements for achieving sectoral and territorial integration used by Member States for the European Union Integrated Coastal Zone Management Programme. I just completed an assignment as a consultant to BP for spatial and economic planning, environmental impact assessment, coastal management, and the empowerment of local businesses for the development of a major LNG project in Irian Jaya, Indonesia. I currently acting as an advisor to the Shannon Development Corporation for integrated coastal management of the Shannon estuary, Ireland.

Examples of consulting and technical advisory assignments:

World Bank, STAP reviews of GEF proposal for investment in conservation of biological diversity and natural resources management. Examples include: Wetland in Pakistan, Ramsar Wetlands in Benin, seagrass and marine ecosystem management in Tunisia

British Petroleum, member International Peer Review Panel for the Environmental Impact Assessment and regional economic and spatial planning and management for the development of a major new LNG facility in Irian Jaya, Indonesia, March 2001 to January 2003
