Learning out of High-Availability configuration:

Sharing corporate network resources for Database Mirroring over long distances (700-800 miles) doesn’t work – Not even asynchronous

Available bandwidth too fluctuating. Sometimes queued up a few hundred MB of transaction log data

Synchronous Mirroring with failover does work well on shorter distance within the datacenter with acceptable performance impact. Several hundred transactions/sec can be easily sustained

Careful with running multiple instances of dbcc indexdefrag or running parallel index creation.

Caution: Possible slowdown of overall system due to massive transaction log content which needed to be transferred. Always monitor the Database Mirroring counters with Perfmon
