Clean Indoor Air: Policy Options
Voluntary policies have been instrumental in eliminating exposure to secondhand smoke— thousands of workplaces, restaurants, and other enclosed environments have adopted policies more restrictive than required by law (local or statewide).
The most successful enacted policy approach has been at the city and county level, with the passage of local clean indoor air ordinances (sometimes called smoking ordinances).92
