Both curve number and drainage area have a direct effect on discharge, while longest flow path length and slope have minimal influence on discharge. Figure 5.17 shows the relative discharge elasticities of longest flow path, slope, curve number, and drainage area.

An analysis of coefficient of variation (CV) values in Table 5.19, as derived for each parameter in Table 5.1, Table 5.2, and Table 5.3, shows that the error associated with determining drainage area is small compared to the error associated with determining longest flow path, slope, and curve number.
